Three parts Orkney and one part Nashville... The Driftwood Cowboys sound like no other band in the isles today.
Their individual histories weave in and out of notable Orcadian groups, from the Smoking Stone Band to The Tribe, and the Lone Star Swing Band. Their press cuttings and passport stamps attest to storming appearances in venues from Austin and Chicago, to Torshavn and Pierowall. Their songs and tunes portray a landscape of Shopping Week Queens, blackenings and barbed wire beer...local stories sung to the universal tune of the blues, old time country, and folk.
The Driftwood Cowboys pick up musical flotsam that floats to our shores from around the world and make something uniquely Orcadian out of it: swinging songs of shopping week queens, rare breed sheep and a passionate love of neeps. Duncan, Iain, Brian and Douglas have a hundred years of experience between them, but still sound like they’re making it up as they go along.
