Kate Fletcher and Corwen Broch are an Orkney based duo rooted in the traditions and landscapes of Britain and Northern Europe. Their music blends traditional song, original material, and the sounds of ancient instruments made by Corwen himself. With Kate’s clear, expressive vocals and multi‑instrumental skill, and Corwen’s deep knowledge of historical music and storytelling, they create performances that are intimate, atmospheric, and steeped in folklore. Together, they bring old songs to life and carry new ones into the tradition.
Kate works as an itinerant music teacher and Corwen for Historic Scotland, but they have a secret life making musical instruments for museums. They have, among other things, made bone flutes for Stonehenge, shown the rebellious youth of Croydon how to make nature instruments from nuts and reeds, featured on Harry Hill’s TV burp with their hobby horse Knobbin, played Neolithic Music at the British Museum, and taught Druids to wassail their apple trees.
