Entries are now being sought for the 2014 Orkney Folk Festival Open Stage competition. Now in its ninth year, the Open Stage offers its champions the opportunity to perform at the following year’s festival as a billed artist, so it is a hard-fought contest.
Many of those who have taken part have gone on to further success, benefit from a greatly enhanced profile from the event. in February, Griogair Morrison – the 2013 Orkney Folk Festival winner – went on to claim a “Danny” at Celtic Connections, in Glasgow for his fingerstyle guitar playing.
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, May 26, in the Stromness Town Hall, and, once again, entries are open to all – the only stipulation is that applications must fit into the folk genre. The competition is open to any type of act; soloist or group; musicians, singers or both, and there is no age limit, however entrants may not be accompanied by tutors.
So, if you fancy taking to the stage, what are you waiting for? Apply now.
Entries will close on April 26, with successful applicants (slots are limited) being notified no later than May 4. Good luck!
